The expression "Go to Joseph" has its roots in the Old Testament:  "When all the land of Egypt was famished, the people cried to Pharaoh for bread; and Pharaoh said to all the Egyptians, “Go to Joseph; what he says to you, do.” (Genesis 41:55).  Just as Joseph, son of Jacob, was a symbol of God's provision, so too was St. Joseph, the earthly provider and protector of young Jesus.  As Christians, we have adopted these words as a short prayer for the intercession of Saint Joseph.
